The XL version is so called because it's the longer of the two sizes, 8-1/8" OAL. The TSA version is shorter, measuring nearly 7 inches. Although the smaller version meets all regulations, it's important to note that when boarding an airplane anything you have can be taken from you by the authorities with or without reason.
