The Neck Knife Fallacy

The neck knife is one of the most heavily overlooked and undervalued carry methods in the modern EDC world. Not because the concept is flawed—but because it’s very difficult to properly design and produce a blade to match the method. The neck knife fallacy is the false belief that effective blades are all too large or bulky to carry via this method or that neck carry itself is inherently dangerous. The EDC CANK destroys this misconception. Designed around the real-world truth that the best tool is the one you actually have on you when you need it, the CANK fills the void between bulk and capability. It delivers the cutting power and leverage of a full-sized blade while maintaining an ultra-low-profile footprint that’s as easy as it is comfortable to carry.

Ergonomics and Anatomy

Applied to blade length, the principle of diminishing returns suggests that a cutting edge of around 2.5 inches captures a great majority of the practical benefit. The CANK exceeds this minimum with a 2.75-inch recurve grind engineered to optimize both slicing and piercing with forward and reverse grips. Just as vital as the edge is the handle geometry. Traditional tactical knives often feature oversized crossguards, overly aggressive jimping, or pointed pommels that create painful hot spots, chafe against the body, and print when carried. Conversely, most similarly sized knives offer an insecure purchase that can risk user injury under stress. The EDC CANK solves these problems with our signature palm swell, rounded pommel, thumb rest, and half-moon cutout all textured for indexing as part of the greater handle architecture. The CANK locks solidly into hand—preventing slipping onto the live edge even when wet—all the while eliminating unnecessary bulk.

Metallurgy and In-House Craftsmanship

Maintaining 100% in-house production using proprietary heat-treat practices is the only way we can guarantee absolute blade integrity. Many makers farm out critical steps like heat treatment to high-volume commercial facilities, resulting in inconsistent hardness and batch discrepancies. At Bone Tactical, every CANK is forged, shaped, thermal-cycled, quenched, and tempered individually to achieve a hardness of approximately 61 HRC. We’ve found this Rockwell hardness to represent the perfect balance between hardness and toughness. The former provides sharpness and edge retention, while the latter provides strength and ease of field sharpening. Each blade is then hand-ground with our trademark attention to detail in order to achieve our precision bevels and angles. This painstaking process produces an edge geometry that delivers an additional balance between razor sharpness and durability. Our strict adherence to the science of metallurgy ensures that your blade won’t chip or break under normal use, whether it is crafted from high-performance 15N20 steel or our proprietary Bone Tactical Super Steel (chemically, Bone Tactical Super Steel can be described most closely as 102CrV2).

The Sheath and Carry System

A low-visibility blade is only as good as its carry system. Our custom-molded, minimalist thermoplastic sheath achieves an exceptionally small profile because we engineered the retention point directly into the blade itself—a Bone Tactical innovation that secures the knife with roughly 7 lbs of retention so it doesn’t accidentally unsheathe. The EDC CANK ships complete with two versatile carry methods out of the box: a stainless-steel breakaway neck chain and an IWB belt carry clip. The stainless chain offers a clean, non-tactical appearance that won't rust or tarnish, while providing a critical safety breakaway feature if snagged or pulled under extreme tension. The included IWB (inside the waistband) clip also works great for pocket carry, and mounts directly to the sheath's eyelet system. Standard 1/4-inch eyelet holes spaced 3/4-inch on-center offer the CANK sheath universal modularity in accepting a wide array of popular aftermarket clips (like the UltiClip popular with the pocket-fixed-blade trend).

The handle scales are carved from rare Granadillo wood that we’ve reclaimed from the jungles of Central America, offering an exotic feel in hand. The Resolute edition comes presented in a handmade, fire-branded Spanish Cedar wood box.

·       High Roller: The flagship execution of the EDC CANK platform. Forged from our proprietary Bone Tactical Super Steel and finished in a simulated gold-plated polymer resin finish, this edition pairs high-performance capability with an unapologetic, virtuoso aesthetic. The handle scales are shaped from genuine reclaimed Honduran Rosewood. The High Roller comes presented in a custom, handmade, fire-branded reclaimed Spanish Cedar coffin case. We reclaim all of the exotic hardwoods ourselves from dead, fallen trees.
