The karambit originated in 11th-century Indonesia as a versatile tool for everyday use, but quickly evolved into a formidable self-defense weapon. Inspired by the tiger's claw, its curved blade mimicked the wounds inflicted by the region's apex predators. Even in a time when commoners were restricted from carrying weapons, the karambit served as a discreet and effective means of protection. Today, the Bone Tactical karambit remains one of the most efficient and compact self-defense tools available.
When Greg Tambone began designing edged weapons over a decade ago, the karambit was a priority due a fondness for the blade style he developed along with his knife fighting experience. The lack of modernized designs on the market spurred him on to achieve his goal of creating what is now the world's most effective concealed carry fixed blade karambit. Traditional karambits, though iconic, often fail to meet modern needs, being bulky, impractical to carry, or poorly constructed. Enter the Bone Tactical Karambit—a modern, optimized solution built for performance, concealment, speed of access, ease of carry, and durability.
Key Features
- Compact Yet Powerful: The curved blade delivers the slashing power of much larger knives while remaining discreet and easy to conceal. Its design ensures it is nearly impossible to disarm, with the finger ring allowing secure grip and seamless transitions between close and medium ranges.
- Ergonomic Design: Precision jimping and custom-molded contours provide maximum grip and usability in both standard and over-the-knuckles grip positions.
- Dual-Functionality: A single sharpened edge enhances martial arts flow, while the unsharpened side works with the integrated bottle opener for trapping and hooking techniques. This configuration also makes it legal in more jurisdictions (check local laws).
- Custom Quality: Each karambit is handcrafted from 3/16" top quality steel, heat-treated in house, ensuring every piece is a unique, heirloom-quality blade capable of hard use. Continuous field testing by ensures ongoing improvements to design and performance.
Carry Options
- Kydex Sheath: Modular and ambidextrous, specifically designed for inside-the-waistband (IWB) carry in civilian settings or attachment to kit in tactical applications.
- Optional Leather Sheath: Luxurious, handmade from premium leather, the leather sheath available for separate purchase allows for concealed, comfortable OWB belt carry and quick access. Wearable vertically or horizontally, it’s an ideal choice for professional or casual environments.
Innovation Beyond Tradition
Bone Tactical was the first to incorporate a bottle opener on karambit, slightly enhancing its functionality for trapping techniques, but greatly enhancing it's practical use. This thoughtful addition underscores the brand’s commitment to blending utility and self-defense capability in a single tool, with the addition of a little extra style whenever possible. There are few, if any, more impressive tools that can be whipped out of concealment to pop a top on one's favorite capped beverage.
Every Bone Tactical Karambit is a finely crafted collector’s item designed for modern EDC while honoring the blade’s historic roots. Whether used for daily carry, martial arts, or tactical operations, it is built to perform when it matters most.
